Infant colic affects up to 25% of newborns in Pakistan during their first twelve weeks. One of the most preventable triggers is excessive aerophagia — air swallowed during bottle feeding when the teat empties or milk flow fluctuates.
Modern anti-colic systems, such as Philips Avent AirFree vent and Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic tubes, draw air away from the teat into the back of the bottle. This ensures the teat remains full of milk even when held horizontally, allowing baby to feed at a calm, natural rhythm.
When using an anti-colic bottle, always hold the feeder at approximately 45 degrees with the vent hole positioned upward. Ensure silicone ring seals are dry during assembly to prevent micro-leaks and air bypass.
Pediatricians recommend maintaining this feeding position for 15 to 20 minutes and gently burping baby halfway through the feed. If fussiness persists past 3 months, consult your family physician to evaluate milk volume and feeding pacing.
